Job Summary
Summary of position: The Walker School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for their Day School program located in Needham MA. Under the direction of an Education Coordinator the Long-Term Substitute SPED Teacher will be responsible for a classroom of up to nine students with social emotional learning and behavioral disabilities. The Long-Term Substitute SPED Teacher will implement the academic behavioral and social curriculum in the classroom under the supervision of an Education and LicensureRequired: Bachelors degree in related field; ability to attain a Waiver in MA Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 licensure within first 90 days of employment in this : Masters degree in Special Education or related field; MA licensure in Moderate Disabilities :Required: Experience working with children with complex social emotional and behavioral challengesPreferred: Experience as a Special Education TeacherAbilitiesRequired mental abilities: Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely. Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment. Must understand child development and the impact of emotional behavioral and learning disabilities. Must understand issues of confidentiality. Must be receptive to supervision and professional development. Required physical abilities: Ability to work and stand for extended period of time. Job may require bending stooping stretching and lifting. Job requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention as functions: as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional behavioral and educational development of sequential units of study that make learning cumulative connect learning across disciplines and are based on the learning standards within the curriculum lesson plans provided prepare materials necessary for daily instruction maintaining clear reasonable standards and expectations for students in all academic multi-sensory multi-modal varied opportunities for learning that are built on students prior knowledge and experience to build academic and social with an Education Coordinator to provide updates about student progress to inform their writing of progress reports and a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and effectively manage the behavior of students in small and large Walkers model of childcare including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) which requires physical restraint when necessary Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Solution Focused Therapy cooperative group games and behavioral treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in childrens treatment plans IEPs and individual support childrens physical needs and provide a safe and therapeutic environment for fully in the administrative functions of teaching and child care including attending and participating in required meetings completing assigned report writing tasks in a timely manner and actively communicating with families and members of the students multidisciplinary participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at classroom team and promote positive and effective teamwork and problem team in maintaining points/time-out database and weekly log and implement all Walker policies and other duties as to be received: Directly responsible to and supervised by an Education CoordinatorSupervision to be exercised: None
