Description

The Montgomery County Department of Parks Horticulture Forestry and Environmental Education Division is currently seeking applicants to fill several seasonal/part-time intermittent instructor positions. We are looking for instructors with a background in a specific skill area including fitness dance yoga and outdoor recreation to join our team. Classes will be held in parks county-wide. The ideal candidate can work independently is energetic and enjoys teaching in an indoor and outdoor environment.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Develops and delivers interpretive and recreation programs and events.

  • Works collaboratively with other staff members to design and implement new programs that serve the community.

  • Implements recreation classes that engage and educate participants by providing instruction supervision and skill set.

  • Provides and outlines lesson plans and descriptions for proposed classes and programs.

  • Ensures an inviting positive and safe environment.

  • Communicates effectively with program coordinator and class participants.

  • Maintains communication with class participants.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in skill area or specialized education and training in skill.

  • Ability to demonstrate and perform in skill area.

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • Must hold a valid certification in discipline/field.

  • Must be able to work daytime and evenings.

  • Must have a valid CPR/First Aid certification.

  • Must be able to pass FBI and MD background check.

  • Ability to communicate in another language a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible work schedule. Hours per week is dependent on instructor availability.

  • Classes may be offered on a quarterly basis and generally scheduled up to four months in advance.

  • Primarily working outside in a park setting or inside a Park Activity Building.

  • May be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions and seasonal temperatures and weather conditions.

  • Must be able to stoop kneel stretch lift carry and move/lift objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to arrive to classes at least fifteen minutes before scheduled class time.

  • Responsible for opening and closing of indoor venues.


Supplemental Information

  • This position is not eligible for benefits.

  • A background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
