Responsibilities
- Assesses the needs of patients and families through the interpretation of written medical director protocols and creating an appropriate patient care plan within their scope of practice.
- Adapts and adjusts the patients care plan according to the patients needs in the prehospital setting and may serve as primary attendant of patient while on scene and/or during transportation.
- Prepared to physically intervene in potentially violent situations to provide patient care in accordance to departmental policies and procedures.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patients care.
- Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service.
- Ability to transport a patient or community member in a safe manner through the utilization of an ambulance or secure car potentially during adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to safety transport a patient by stretcher stair-chair and/or by vehicle (ambulance).
- Represents the department at community events such as sporting event standbys parades and job fairs.
- Ability to prepare reports and testify to their accuracy/events during criminal civil or regulatory investigation.
- Documents daily weekly and monthly ambulance checks to ensure proper stock levels of equipment and supplies.
- Prepares the ambulances by ensuring they are cleaned and in a state of readiness which includes appropriate decontamination when necessary.
- Performs hospital-based duties appropriate for individuals level of EMS certification and assists registered nurses in ER and other patient care areas.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School graduate or equivalent current certification at EMT level is required.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Writes reads comprehends and speaks fluent English basic computer knowledge using word processing spreadsheet email and web browser.
