Job Summary
accountant manages and analyzes financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance preparing financial reports handling tax returns and conducting audits. Key duties include reconciling accounts analyzing financial data to identify trends and managing accounts payable/receivable and payroll. A strong understanding of accounting principles attention to detail and proficiency with accounting software are essential skills.
Core responsibilities
Financial reporting: Prepare and maintain financial statements like balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements.
Record-keeping: Document and organize all financial transactions ensuring they are accurate and complete.
Tax compliance: Calculate taxes and prepare and submit annual tax returns in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Auditing: Conduct internal audits risk assessments and cooperate with external auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Account reconciliation: Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and studying account information performing monthly account reconciliation and ensuring reports and ledgers are accurate.
Financial analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends variances and opportunities for improvement providing insights to management for decision-making.
Budgeting: Create review and present budgets and forecasts.
Payroll and accounts: Handle accounts payable accounts receivable and payroll processes.
Essential skills and qualifications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with accounting software and other relevant technology.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
A bachelors degree in accounting or a related field is often required along with certifications for advanced roles.
Required Skills:
Work experience as an Accountant. Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Hands-on experience with accounting software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks. Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
