Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager Professional Practice the Advanced Practice Nurse Educator (APNE) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary leadership team and demonstrates a set of core competencies fundamental to developing and maintaining the academic practice environment at UHN.

The APNE aligned with the Hillcrest Reactivation Care Unit is a member of the Toronto Rehab Practice leadership team and Practice-Based Education team within the Collaborative Academic Practice portfolio.  The APNE role involves enhancing patient care by applying evidence-based practices providing clinical consultation and addressing gaps in practice.

They will be expected to possess a set of core competencies fundamental to developing and advancing best practices at the point-of-care. Key components of the role involve focusing on: staff education and development; promoting and enhancing interprofessional collaboration; facilitating knowledge translation into practice; as well as leadership and change management. The APNE will also collaborate with unit managers other educators and stakeholders to support various practice-based or clinical care projects. 

Duties 

  • Design and deliver tailored staff education
  • Assess staff learning needs develop deliver and evaluate educational programs
  • Promote professional development and mentors nurses for career growth
  • Collaborate with teams across UHN and the academic community on clinical and educational initiatives
  • Participates in committees and shares best practices
  • Support program evaluation implements innovative education strategies and leads quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to scholarship a culture of inquiry and research as appropriate
  • Drive nursing visibility and change management efforts ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

Qualifications :

  • Must be registered with CNO (College of Nurses of Ontario) and able to practice without restrictions
  • Current membership in RNAO (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario) is preferred
  • Current membership in a related professional interest group or association is preferred
  • Masters degree in Nursing or Education required; will consider candidates with Masters program in progress  
  • Theoretical and practical experience in adult education and other relevant educational frameworks including educational program planning development and evaluation is required
  • Completion of specialty-specific certification program(s) relevant to respective clinical areas required
  • Completion of a Basic Life Support (BLS) program required upon hire
  • Previous experience as an Educator considered an asset
  • At least three years of previous nursing experience in a relevant specialty preferred
  • Excellent leadership time management facilitation skills
  • Interprets communicates and disseminates research findings to support patient care and recommends evidence-based policy and practice change
  • Ability to be adaptable build trust provide coaching and collaboration facilitate change and promote continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate staff and create an environment conducive to learning and team building
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Able to work effectively as a member of and/or lead an interprofessional team
  • Able to effectively use information technology
  • Ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
