Job Summary

Working in the Registrars Office this role serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students base program students and bridging students for issues related to financial aid and student scholarships and awards. Responsibilities for all aspects of the bursary application processes and procedures and the preparation of the financial aid and award data for key stakeholders. The Financial Aid and Awards Officer works with students in financial crisis and emergencies. The ideal candidate is able to work independently as well as with an integrated team in a fast-paced environment.

Financial Aid

  • Organizes and supervises the bursary cycle processes and procedures for all base programs in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Generates a list of recommended bursaries to those students with demonstrated financial needs.
  • Provides financial advising to base programs students and continuing education students receiving government support.
  • Organizes and delivers workshops related to financial planning financial literacy OSAP etc.
  • Acting as the operational lead/liaison for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for student financial assistance administration matters (including audits and reporting). Processing and submitting appropriate documentation (including Confirmation of Enrolments) related to OSAP and out of province student financial assistance applications.
  • Primary contact for MCU (for OSAP related matters) Out of Province Loan Programs and National Student and other external vendors/organizations related to financial aid (such as National Bank for line of credits).
  • Organizes the Scholarships and Awards Committee meetings and support the work of the Committee in promoting receiving and adjudicating awards and scholarships (entrance in-course and graduation scholarships.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements in the adjunction of awards and scholarships (in consultation with Registrar)

Other Duties include:

  • Providing administrative support to the Scholarships and Awards committee and any associated working groups.
  • Creates and implements workshops for financial literacy OSAP rules and regulations and other opportunities for funding.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum education requirement of a bachelor degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary environment with 3 years of direct experience working in financial aid and awards
  • Strong student advising skills
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly with students faculty and staff
  • Strong ability to work effectively with external stakeholders (such as MCU).
  • Strong ability to anticipate challenges/problems and to make decisions as needed and to escalate when warranted
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong computer skill especially in excel
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance document required upon hire
