About the opportunity

The Lecturer in Physics will deliver teaching in the discipline of Physics including content development at a time of rapid change in the profession and in graduate careers. The successful applicant will create and deliver content face to face and online in seminars tutorials and practicals. Physics at the University of Tasmania has a strong tradition and research focus in the physics of the natural world from astrophysics to geophysics encompassing precision measurement and advanced computer simulations. Our undergraduate physics curriculum is designed to give a thorough grounding in quantitative problem-solving skills with a multidisciplinary flavour. The role provides an opportunity to develop a teaching portfolio that aligns with the School of Natural Sciences and Sciences and Engineering strategic direction in areas of fundamental science underpinning excellence in STEM and climate impacts broadly considered

What youll do:

  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake scholarly undergraduate (and if relevant postgraduate) coursework teaching of a high quality.
  • Enable connections between undergraduate teaching and high-quality research of national standing and contribute to the successful development of honours and research students through the lens of research-informed teaching.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of an inclusive culture where the community supports each other to collaborate and flourish.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally and nationally including relevant interdisciplinary domains.

What were looking for:

  • Experience and demonstrated quality in university-level teaching and learning in physics.
  • Experience in research supervision and supporting honours level learning.
  • A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline and wider research community.
  • A record of proactively developing inclusion diversity and equity within a collaborative and supportive community.
  • A PhD (or equivalent) in physics or a related field along with registration to Work with Vulnerable People.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155885 comprising base salary within the range of $114766 to $133235 pro rata plus 17% superannuation.
