The Shire of Carnarvon is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and motivated safety professionals to join our organisation as a People & Safety Coordinator on a 6-month fixed-term contract commencing in February 2026.

About the Role
The People & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in developing implementing and maintaining the Shires Work Health and Safety (WHS) framework. Working closely with leaders and employees the role supports capability building fosters a people-first safety culture and drives continuous improvement in WHS systems reporting and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating WHS system development compliance activities and legislative reporting
Leading risk assessments workplace inspections and safety audits
Supporting incident investigations workers compensation and return-to-work programs
Delivering WHS training inductions toolbox meetings and capability-building workshops
Assisting leaders to strengthen WHS confidence competence and positive safety culture
Coordinating emergency management preparedness and safety initiatives across the organisation
This role is well-suited to someone who enjoys partnering with people engaging with leaders and building organisational safety capability.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
Demonstrated experience in WHS coordination safety compliance or risk management
Strong knowledge of WHS legislation regulations and industry best practice
Experience in incident investigations WHS audits and safety training
High-level communication and coaching skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with excellent attention to detail
A positive collaborative and people-focused approach
Experience in local government or another regulated environment (desirable but not essential)
