Job Summary
neurologist is a medical doctor who diagnoses treats and manages disorders of the nervous system including the brain spinal cord and nerves. Their job involves performing physical exams ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests like EEGs and MRIs developing treatment plans and communicating with patients and other medical professionals. They treat conditions such as epilepsy stroke Alzheimers Parkinsons and multiple sclerosis.
Key responsibilities
Diagnosis and treatment: Evaluate diagnose and treat neurological disorders like epilepsy stroke Parkinsons and dementia through physical exams and diagnostic tests.
Diagnostic testing: Order and interpret tests such as electroencephalograms (EEG) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans to diagnose conditions.
Treatment planning: Develop and manage comprehensive treatment plans including prescribing medication and monitoring patient progress.
Patient care: Provide ongoing care for patients with neurological conditions and their families including counseling on diagnoses and care plans.
Emergency response: Respond to neurological emergencies like strokes or seizures that require immediate evaluation and treatment.
Collaboration: Work with other physicians and medical staff to ensure integrated patient care.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely medical records for all patients.
Key skills and qualifications
Education: A medical degree and a residency in neurology.
Licensing: A state medical license and Federal DEA license are required.
Diagnostic skills: Outstanding practical and diagnostic expertise is essential.
Communication: Excellent communication counseling and listening skills are needed to interact with patients families and other professionals.
Organization: Superb organization and time management skills are necessary for handling multiple patients and complex cases.
Required Skills:
Must be a high school graduate. Further training in child care and development from some registered institution (eg. ACNS ). Proven child care experience with references. First Aid and CPR certification. Safety certification. A valid driving license and a safe driving record.
