OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Career Success is a key leadership role responsible for setting the strategic vision and ensuring the intended impact of career services for our college students and college graduate alumni. This position is crucial in helping participants secure meaningful economically-mobilizing careers through improved access to career pathways targeted professional development and expansive networking opportunities. The Director leads the Career Success department including the supervision of our Career Success team and manages numerous strategic internal and external collaborations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise coach and develop a team of Career Success professionals ensuring performance expectations and key initiatives are achieved.
- Foster a collaborative inclusive and high-accountability team culture focused on student and alumni success.
- Lead team meetings retreats and training sessions to align staff with strategic priorities and the 10000 Degrees mission.
- Oversee staff hiring retention and satisfaction within the department.
Program Strategy & Curriculum Delivery
- Implement the strategic vision and planning for all career services events and partnerships.
- Oversee the facilitation of career programs including virtual webinars workshops and in-person career days for students and alumni.
- Develop high-quality presentations and interactive workshops to build professional skills networking and career exposure that empowers students and alumni to become competitive job seekers in any labor market.
- Manage key digital assets including the Career Success website (content updates and expansion) and the LinkedIn partnership (workshops and curriculum).
- Oversee the creation and distribution of career newsletters for students and volunteers.
Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage a portfolio of Career Success partners (corporate and community employers) who offer internships and career programs.
- Maintain excellent relationships with partners seek out new partnerships and grow the overall partnership portfolio.
- Develop outreach plans coordinate student referrals and curate lists of qualified students for partner opportunities.
- Serve as a program ambassador at trainings events and fundraising functions.
- Lead the Career Success team to collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure alignment of data resources and key objectives.
Volunteer Management & Data Engagement
- Recruit onboard and manage volunteers who provide career advising and networking opportunities.
- Administer the Career Mentor Platform (Chronus) acting to resolve mentor/mentee needs and oversee key mentoring initiatives (Career Catalyst RAMP).
- Host volunteer trainings and events serving as the go-to resource for career volunteer opportunities.
- Ensure timely and accurate data tracking within Salesforce and other systems.
- Oversee student and partner surveys analyze the results and coordinate with the Data & Evaluation team on program metrics and systems design.
- This position requires some in-person presence and/or travel within the regions served.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent employment history
- 5 years in a leadership role (director-level preferred)
- Demonstrated success with program partner and people management responsibilities
- Extensive knowledge of the career development field current trends tools and practices related to internships and job searching for recent graduates specifically with a focus on first-generation college students
- Knowledge of and experience with talent acquisition and hiring practices engagement with internship programs or employment programs targeting early career starters
- Proven experience managing and growing external partnerships including researching prospecting and positioning
- Proficiency in volunteer management practices including recruiting onboarding training
- Experience leading the implementation of programs services and events (virtual and in-person) preferably for first-generation students
- Demonstrated use of data to evaluate and inform program design and decision-making
- Ability to think strategically and operate with a high level of responsiveness and follow-through
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal) organizational administrative and project management skills
- Proven savvy for tailoring communications to suit a variety of audiences including internal/external stakeholders students volunteers and Board members
- Solution and detail-oriented with the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision
- Required in-office (San Rafael CA) generally one day per week ability to support/lead occasional evening or weekend events

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL
To perform the essential functions of this position employees may be required to:
- Sit stand talk hear reach stoop kneel and use hands and fingers to operate a computer telephone and keyboard.
- Occasionally required to stand for prolonged periods.
- Have close-vision ability due to computer work.
- Engage in moderate occasional lifting.
- Have a reliable means of transportation to attend regular work as well as other off-site business functions.
