Pauktuutit as the national voice of Inuit women in Canada has a key role to play in ensuring the use of a gender-equality lens in policies impacting Inuit women girls and gender-diverse Inuit. We promote greater progress in priority areas across health and well-being violence and abuse prevention safety and social and economic development. Our ability to do so depends heavily on partnership across government key funders Inuit community groups and other stakeholder organizations.


Job Purpose

Under the direction and supervision of the Communications Lead the Communications Coordinator supports the delivery of the communications program for Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada (Pauktuutit). The role requires strong collaboration to develop communications strategies support execution and measure of results to help understand what is working and what is not in order to broaden the reach and deepen the impacts of projects and advocacy efforts related to advancing Pauktuutits strategic the communications process this position liaises with staff at all levels of the organization as well as with partners and external agencies.


Responsibilities Include:

Project Communications

Engages as the first line of support for Inuktitut communication needs.

Draft plain language messaging and content suitable for a range of audiences and coordinate the development and production of multilingual documents.

Drafts content for departmental and corporate webpages and other social media platforms and manages all social media platforms and website updates.

Coordinates the expansion of Pauktuutits participation on relevant social media outlets.

Works with external communications firms to ensure ongoing improvement to web pages and communications products as managers deem necessary.

Manages and coordinates translation requests.

Develops internal communications plans and facilitates and fosters information sharing across Pauktuutit on strategy and specific projects.

Coordinates communications campaigns to increase awareness of Pauktuutit on-going projects and strategic agenda.

Receives manages and responds to communications requests and media inquiries under the direction of the communications lead.

Monitors media landscape at local regional and national level. Prepare updates and newsletters to inform leadership and staff members of relevant news items.

Coordinates the development and dissemination of communications products and materials and provides feedback on all designed work.

Drafts graphic media (publications infographics posters social media graphics etc.) as required by the managers and leadership team.

Develops content for Pauktuutit social media platforms and provide analysis and strategic engagement.

Develops written materials including briefings news releases media statements and speaking notes for Pauktuutit representatives including the President and CEO and leadership team.

Coordinates and supports the planning editing production and distribution of external reports newsletters and publications.

Assists department managers and leadership team in liaising with national and regional Inuit organizations and other agencies as required.

Supports Communications departments administration by following procedures. Creates purchase orders tracks invoices and facilitates payment processes.

Maintains contact lists for media updates mailing lists and maintains preferred vendor lists.

Manages projects in the Communications department as required and assists with other projects as needed.

Assists with event planning and preparation.

Monitors local regional and national media for relevant information pertaining to Pauktuutits work. Provides reports and shares information in a timely manner.


Other Duties

Builds and sustains networks relationships and partnerships with other Inuit organizations communities services and organizational stakeholders.

Coordinates and facilitates meetings and workshops as required; and attends meetings related to projects advocacy and organizational goals as deemed necessary

Represents Pauktuutit in local regional and national planning initiatives committees conferences and meetings as required.

Maintains a foundational understanding of community regional and national developments as they pertain to Inuit.

Please note other duties may be assigned as needed to meet the mandate and evolving needs of the organization.

Administration:

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Social Media platforms WordPress Canva and Adobe Acrobat Suite.

Working knowledge of virtual meeting tools such as MS Teams and Zoom.

Presentation skills using PowerPoint or similar software.

Ability to travel across Canada in remote communities when required.


Education

Post-secondary education in a discipline relevant to communications journalism or public relations or an acceptable combination of education and experience.


Experience:

Minimum 2 years experience providing communications support in an organizational context

Experience in executing social media strategies

Strong written communication skills and ability to develop creative content

Experience contributing to implementing and supporting evaluation of communications material

Knowledge and experience working with Inuit of Inuit Nunangat and current political cultural issues particularly relating to health violence and abuse prevention and social and economic realities of Inuit.

Fluency in English and Inuktitut (oral and written)
