DescriptionCivil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for one full-time Postdoctoral Research position to collaborate with our team to bring stormwater management ecosystem services workforce development and environmental sector training to East Knoxville. Candidates should have a primary interest and background in water resources engineering hydrology or a related discipline. The post doc will work within a dynamic research team will be exposed to interdisciplinary research and engagement and will be expected to communicate with diverse audiences through various media.
The position is available to start as soon as November 15 2025. The Postdoctoral researcher will report to Dr. Jon Hathaway. This is a twelve-month appointment renewable annually for up to two years based on performance and grant funds availability. The compensation package includes a competitive salary health benefits career mentoring and any required travel.
Responsibilities- Have a high level of motivation enthusiasm to learn and the ability to work in a team.
- Design and oversee construction of stormwater control systems
- Develop and deliver training and educational programs targeting stakeholders and K-12 students
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals on an annual basis
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in civil engineering environmental engineering biosystems engineering or related disciplines
- Experience with the design monitoring and inspection of green stormwater infrastructure
- Experience performing field work in urban watersheds
- Documented ability to communicate in both oral and written forms for a range of audiences (K-12 to academic)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience overseeing construction of landscaped or civil infrastructure
- Lead authorship of papers in peer-reviewed journals
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines and adapt to ever changing needs.
