TITLE: Human Resources Manager Employment
LOCATION: Central Office and Training Center
The Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22000 students and 60 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.
With Head Start/preschools 28 elementary schools 7 middle schools and 5 college and career academies/high schools we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic 24% African American 9% White and 6% Asian. To serve our students the district employs approximately 4000 employees including more than 1800 teachers.
JOB GOAL
To support district personnel at all levels of the organization to support the overall District vision mission and values. The HR Employment Manager serves as a point-of-contact for assigned HR functional areas and is a subject matter expert for the onboarding and offboarding support for all employees within Kansas City Kansas Public Schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee onboarding process from start to finish including conducting initial paperwork prompt background checks (Validity and KBI) I-9 documentation pre-employment testing for potential employees offer letters while performing all onboarding procedures as required by law
- Onboarding and Offboarding: ensuring a smooth onboarding and offboarding experience for newly hired employees or employees that are leaving employment.
- Continuously improving the onboarding experience and new hire orientation to set new hires up for success.
- Manage sensitive employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Coordinates the inputting changing and deleting of employee information in the HRIS systems (TalentEd/PowerSchool TimeClock Plus Frontline)
- Ensure accurate and timely execution of HR administrative processes.
- Process employees queries and respond in a timely manner
- Ensure HR policies and procedures are up-to-date compliant and consistently applied
- Help hiring managers and employees regarding the fair and consistent interpretation of board policies and procedures
- Help facilitate paid time off balances in Frontline and TimeClock Plus
- Partner with Recruiting on select recruitment activities
- Coordinate with recruiters on identification of alternative positions for staff faced with potential lay off due to lack of work or budget cuts
- May supervise Human Resources or administrative staff as needed
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in HR Business or a related field (preferred)
- 3 years of progressive HR experience ideally in a generalist or business partner capacity.
- Strong knowledge of HR laws policies and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law and HR best practices.
- Proven ability to coach leaders and navigate complex employee matters.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Google and experience with HRIS platforms
COMMUNICATION/ORGANIZATION:Maintains communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of other related work as required.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports general curriculum and learning theories correspondence and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators staff parents students and the general public.
