- Enforce Vehicle Standards and Keep Our Roads Safe!
TheDepartment of Customer Servicesis hiring a Motor Vehicle Control Inspector Ito perform duties pertaining to the enforcement of rules regulations and procedures governing common carrier companies and motor vehicle safety inspection stations in assigned areas.
What You Will Do:- Conduct field investigations of complaints on abandoned and neglected vehicles.
- Conduct field inspections of various vehicles for compliance with City ordinances and State laws including:
- Taxi tour tow U-drive vehicles
- Pedicabs mopeds and passenger-carrying trucks
- Reconstructed vehicles and safety inspection stations
- Verify companies (e.g. taxi U-drive tour pedicab) have valid business licenses and permits.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of experience in inspectional investigative instructional or repair work which shall have included ascertaining the overall mechanical operating and safety condition of motor vehicles.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license (automobile/Type 3) prior to appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a special police commissionprior to completion of probation. During the probationary period selectees shall be fingerprinted photographed and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.Examination Process
