Job Title: Mental Therapy Aide Evening Shifts
Location: Syracuse NY
Contract Duration:14 Weeks
Shift Structure:
412-hour shifts (19:0007:30)
48-hour shifts (23:0007:30)
Every other weekend required
Some holidays required
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mental Therapy Aide to support the Children/Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at a healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in pediatric and/or psychiatric care and be able to function effectively in an acute inpatient environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct and indirect patient care in an acute psychiatric setting.
Take and record vital signs; monitor and document intake/output.
Complete patient admission documentation and assist during physical examinations.
Assist patients with hygiene needs and activities of daily living (ADLs).
Collect specimens and transport patients as needed.
Orient new patients to unit rules schedules and routines.
Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients under nursing supervision.
Interact therapeutically with patients during structured activities.
Intervene during crisis situations ensuring patient safety at all times.
Conduct safety checks each shift and maintain a secure environment.
Apply clinical and psychological interventions appropriate to each patients age and developmental stage.
Observe and report patient responses to treatments.
Support day-to-day nursing unit management tasks.
Use the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for documentation.
Required Qualifications
Current CPR certification (mandatory).
Minimum 1 year of experience required; 2 years preferred.
Prior experience in an inpatient environment preferred.
Pediatric experience preferred; psychiatric experience required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to perform essential patient care tasks with minimal supervision.
