Job Summary:

The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) has an opening for a Dental Dispensary Technician I or II. Under the direction of the appropriate supervisor this role is responsible for supporting clinical and preclinical activities by managing and distributing dental supplies instruments and equipment. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that students faculty and residents have the necessary resources for patient care and laboratory activities while maintaining accuracy organization and proper inventory control.

We are seeking professionals who are collaborative communicative detail-oriented organized proactive quality-focused and committed to continuous personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinic Support 50% (Essential Function)

  • Cleans and decontaminates and provides maintenance of instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques.

  • Ensures proper functioning of equipment.

  • Cleans sanitizing machines and equipment.

  • Maintains a level of sterilized instruments for distribution.

Instrument Preparation 35% (Essential Function)

  • Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units

  • Collects used instruments and moves them for sterilization.

  • Prepares specialized instruments set-ups for residents faculty and undergraduate students to be used during dental patient treatment.

Monitoring Supplies and Materials 10% (Essential Function)

  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies equipment and materials for the clinical area of responsibility.

  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of dental materials their use maintenance and storage.

Clinical Education Support 5% (Essential Function)

  • Support the educational mission of the SDM including role modeling and coaching students how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinical operations support.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Dental Dispensary Technician I:

  • One year of dental assisting experience.

    • Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute one year of experience.NOTE: If exercising the education substitution applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.

  • Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.

Dental Dispensary Technician II:

  • Two years of dental assisting experience.

    • Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.

  • Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced dental or orthodontics environment.

  • Experience with clinical area preparation in a dental clinic and/or office.

  • Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education and/or academic medical environment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of individuals.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in decision making.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Strong oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of dental terminology and instrumentation.

  • Knowledge of current dental materials tools and instruments and proper use and technique.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level knowledge and proficiency in all phases of dental assisting.

Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

  • Dental Dispensary Technician I: $39744 $46099

  • Dental Dispensary Technician II: $43812 - $50830

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
