Introduction:
This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and functionality of Kapiolani Community Colleges academic offerings. The Curriculum Specialist oversees and facilitates the comprehensive curriculum review process guiding faculty and departments from initial proposal to final implementation. This role is also a key contact for all aspects of the registration system ensuring accuracy compliance and user support. The Specialist acts as a vital resource and collaborator bridging academic policy with system functionality to maintain accurate degree audits and a seamless academic experience for the campus community.
Duties and Responsibilities- Oversees and facilitates the curriculum review process and collaborates with faculty members and department chairs to offer guidance on curriculum proposals.
- Provides guidance and feedback to departments on academic program development including new program proposals curriculum development course proposals and changes and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Manages access to curriculum proposals in the curriculum management system and organizes committee review processes.
- Serves as the campus administrator for the Kuali Student Curriculum Management (KSCM) system including user access management system innovations upgrades and representing the campus in the systemwide committees and groups.
- Collaborates with teams in the development of new academic programs and proposals for establishing program status including submitting proposals to the UH System.
- Identifies and implements necessary changes related to credit hours grade types cross-listing renumbering permanent course archiving course content and repeat conditions that impact STAR audits ensuring accurate updates for degree audits.
- Serves as a resource for faculty department chairs staff and others on issues such as curriculum and program development.
- Represents on campus and systemwide committees focused on curriculum development and advocating for campus needs and modifications to the registration system.
- Maintains Kapiolani Community Colleges general catalog.
- Oversees security access for faculty/staff access to the registration system including but not limited to developing a tracking system to add/remove and manage/maintain user access.
- Serves as a primary contact and coordinator for all aspects of the registration system including but not limited to consulting on system design providing support developing training manuals delivering training to the campus for current and future updates and initiatives and collaborating with campus stakeholders.
- Coordinates the testing of degree audits reviews campus enhancement requests recommends improvements and presents challenges to campus stakeholders for consideration action and consultation.
- Provides functional assistance evaluation and troubleshooting for all aspects of the registration system ensuring timely notification of changes for end users on campus.
- Manages and implements processes to resolve discrepancies troubleshoots and analyzes issues to determine solutions performs corrective measures to reconcile the campus catalog and curriculum-approved programs while providing information and clarification to faculty staff and students.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation for the creation and ongoing maintenance of each curriculums degree audit including but not limited to a list of all curriculum changes (current and previous course changes a list of diversification and foundation courses and program changes).
- Collaborates with academic programs and departments across campus to ensure that both new and modified curriculum changes are accurate and feasible within the registration system while also providing education and communication as needed.
- Incorporates academic policies federal and state laws and regulations into Degree Audits and Reports to ensure compliance across all academic disciplines.
- Evaluates existing policies and procedures providing suggestions for improvements to the system team and/or campus stakeholders.
- Coordinates with academic units and communicates with faculty campus units and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with policies promptly notifying relevant parties of any changes in the registration system.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:- Masters degree in any field offered at Kapiolani Community College
Note: All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and be met by the effective date of appointment.
Desired Qualifications:- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising systems curriculum management student information systems or related areas in higher education.
- At least one (1) year of professional experience with data systems such as STAR Curriculum Management System Banner or similar academic or student information systems
- At least one (1) year of professional experience developing and delivering training or presentations to faculty staff or students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the University of Hawaii systems academic policies and the STAR system or similar functionality.
- At least one (1) year of professional experience with Kuali Student Curriculum Management (KSCM) system and/or familiarity with curriculum development software.
- At least one (1) year of professional experience designing or maintaining degree audit systems and integrating academic policies into technical platforms.
- At least one (1) year of professional experience coordinating or serving on campus or system-level committees.
- Commitment to supporting Indigenous-serving initiatives and aligning system processes with Indigenous perspectives and community needs.
- Familiarity with federal compliance regulations affecting curriculum and academic program management.
- Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive documentation and training materials for system-wide use.
- Evidence of commitment to Kapiolani Community Colleges vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social economic and sustainable advancement of Hawaii and the world.
