Job Summary

General Definition of Work

The French Classroom Assistant supports the French language teacher in delivering engaging and effective language instruction. The role involves assisting with classroom activities providing individual or small-group language support encouraging student participation and promoting the use of French in a positive and culturally rich learning environment.

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the French teacher in preparing and delivering lessons materials and activities that support student learning.
  • Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the teachers supervision to enhance students academic success in French.
  • Guide students during classwork and independent study (e.g. enrichment or remedial activities) to reinforce key language concepts.
  • Support students in developing their French language skills including pronunciation grammar reading writing and oral communication.
  • Conduct small-group or one-on-one sessions to provide targeted assistance and encourage active participation in French conversation.
  • Help maintain a positive inclusive and safe learning environment in the classroom and during school activities or field trips.
  • Help organize and participate in cultural activities such as French language days celebrations and exchange programs.
  • Share authentic insights about French culture traditions and current affairs to promote intercultural understanding.
  • Assist in preparing organizing and maintaining classroom resources materials and displays.
  • Support assessment and record-keeping by helping to check assignments track student progress and complete clerical tasks as directed.
  • Support classroom routines supervision and transitions between activities to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Using educational technology digital resources and classroom tools effectively.
  • Managing time prioritizing tasks and following teacher guidance efficiently.
  • Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Foster a positive inclusive and encouraging classroom environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adapt to varying student needs and instructional styles.
  • Maintain confidentiality professionalism and appropriate boundaries in a school setting.

Education and Experience

  • Must be fluent in French;
  • High school diploma; college background preferred
  • Requirements within six (6) months of employment

At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or an associates degree (or higher); or an approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessionals knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction at the appropriate level.

  • Paraprofessionals may meet the assessment requirement by passing the Paraprofessional Assessment (). The minimum passing score on this test is 456.

Special Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a valid Drivers License or ability to provide own transportation

Physical Requirements/Work Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to sit.
  • Frequently squat stoop or kneel reach above the head and reach forward.
  • Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or physically support students during the day in compliance with safety guidelines.
  • May occasionally push/pull items such as tables and seating. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Will regularly work indoors and may occasionally work outdoors.
  • Will work near moving mechanical equipment and may occasionally work near or with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products degreasers and sprays.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Frequent interruptions and immediate attention to unexpected situations are expected.
