Job Summary

Summary


King County Metro the largest transit agency in the northwestern U.S. seeks to hire a Translation Coordinator (Marketing and Sales Specialist III). The ideal candidate will have experience managing translations across vendors and community reviewers for a wide range of communication and marketing projects. Metro publishes content as determined by the community and project needs in these ten most predominant languages other than English: Spanish Chinese Vietnamese Somali Russian Korean Ukrainian Tagalog Arabic and Amharic.

Serving a county with a population larger than 15 U.S. states Metro provides bus paratransit vanpool water taxi and on-demand services and operates the Seattle Streetcar Sound Transit Link light rail and Sound Transit Express buses. Metro is a three-time winner of Best Large Transit Agency in North America as awarded by the American Public Transportation Association. Metro was also named the Most Equitable Agency in Tackling Climate Change by the Federal Transit Administration.


This recruitment will be used to fill 1 SDA/TLT position that will last up to 1-2 addition this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future Career Service Special Duty Assignment Term Limited Temporary or Short Term Temporary vacancies that may occur in this classification within this workgroup. The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date of posting andmay be used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Job Duties

Applying equity and social justice principlesis a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County this role you will apply equity and social justice principles to all aspects of the work. You will:

  • Coordinate translation and community review for communication and marketing projects.
  • Collaborate with content creators project teams and community language service providers to ensure accuracy and cultural relevance.
  • Advise teams on language access needs and identify appropriate languages for translation.
  • Work closely with culturally and linguistically diverse language service providers to complete project requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in translation project management
  • Prior experience in community-based language access work.
  • Understanding of plain language principles and implementation strategies.
  • Highly organized strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the capacity to identify challenges and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency in English grammar proofreading and spelling
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experiencecollaborating effectivelywith cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bilingual/biliterate or multilingual proficiency
  • Current translator certification
  • Basic Adobe InDesign skills

WorkLocationThis is a hybrid position. The main work site for this position is King Street Center 201 S Jackson St. Seattle WA 98104.

The team works in a hybrid model with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change.

Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Work Schedule
The work week is normally 40 hours Monday through Friday. Alternative work schedules may be possible. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is not eligible for overtime pay.
