Starting Salary: $265000.00/Annually

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Forensic Pathologist performs the functions of a pathologist performing postmortem examinations and associated work duties. The Forensic Pathologist will have a faculty appointment with the Department of Pathology and have teaching duties associated with the Forensic Pathology Fellowship program residents and summer preceptorships.



Responsibilities
  1. Performs primary functions of a forensic pathologist in accordance with industry standards to determine the manner and cause of death in medical examiner cases.
  2. Maintains all required accreditations consistent with industry standards.
  3. Maintains individual continuing medical education and assures compliance certification requirements.
  4. Assists in the training of new forensic pathologists fellows residents and assists with the educational programs with participating agencies.
  5. Reports to the scene of investigation when requested and assists investigators in the management of the investigation.
  6. Works closely with outsourced independent contractors when needed for forensic pathology services such as odontology toxicology histology etc.
  7. Provides expert testimony to jurisdictions in West Tennessee.
  8. Provides reports and data in a comprehensive format.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

EDUCATION: MD or DO Degree; Completion of a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology (preferred) or anatomic pathology and a fellowship in forensic pathology. Board certification in forensic pathology must be completed within two (2) years of hire. Must become licensed in the State of Tennessee prior to starting work.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of National Association of Medical Examiners autopsy standards.
  • Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of professional standards in forensic pathology.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development sufficient to ensure organizational productivity.
  • Skills in exercising a high degree of initiative judgment discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational goals.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees.

WORK SCHEDULE:This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
