The Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) seeks a qualified individual for the Insurance Technician 4 Licensing Supervisor position. This role is within the Consumer Protection Division and is based out of our Tumwater Office.

The Licensing Supervisor (Insurance Technician 4) plays a key leadership role within the Producer Licensing and Oversight (PLO) program part of OICs Consumer Protection Division. This position directly supports our mission by ensuring that insurance producers brokers adjusters and other licensees meet the high standards of professionalism and integrity that protect consumers and promote a fair marketplace.


As a Licensing Supervisor youll lead a dedicated team of licensing specialistscoaching mentoring and guiding their work to ensure accuracy efficiency and compliance. Youll help shape licensing processes improve operational systems and serve as a trusted point of contact for industry professionals and the public. Your leadership will help uphold the integrity of Washingtons insurance industry and ensure consumers receive the protection they deserve.

This is a Washington General Service position. The monthly salary range for this position is $4119 - $5531.

Duties

The duties of the position include but are not limited to:


  • Lead and supervise a team of Insurance Technicians responsible for licensing insurance producers brokers adjusters and other professionals.
  • Coach mentor and develop staff to ensure accuracy consistency and adherence to laws rules and agency policies.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance set clear expectations and foster a supportive and accountable team environment.
  • Oversee licensing operations ensuring timely and compliant processing of applications renewals and reinstatements.
  • Improve efficiency by reviewing workflows procedures and systems and recommending or implementing process enhancements.
  • Provide expert guidance to staff the insurance industry consumers and other stakeholders on licensing requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with program management and HR on recruitment training and performance management decisions.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports to monitor performance metrics and support program decisions.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for public inquiries and industry communications.
  • Perform other related duties to support the mission and goals of the Producer Licensing and Oversight Program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Two (2) years of experience as an Insurance Technician 3 or two (2) years of full-time relevant experience performing complex customer service compliance or technical assistance at a level comparable to state classifications such as Consumer Program Specialist 1 Customer Service Specialist 3 Program Specialist 2 or Professional Licensing Representative 1.

OR

  • Five (5) years (full-time equivalent) of progressively responsible experience providing customer service or technical assistance in regulated high-volume or detail-oriented environments such as insurance healthcare utilities telecommunications financial services or similar fields. Additional qualifying education* will substitute year for year for experience.

*A degree in business communications public administration or related field from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or a foreign equivalent may be substituted for relevant experience. Proof of degree may be required prior to employment. If a degree was awarded outside of the United States candidates must provide a credential evaluation report.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate-level skills and experience in Microsoft Outlook PowerPoint Word and Excel.
  • Ability to accurately type 50 words per minute.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications:


  • Knowledge experience and application in enforcing the RCWs and WACs as they pertain to insurance licensing
  • Experience in a lead supervisory mentoring or training capacity including assigning checking or supporting the work of others.
  • Professional designations through the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP) the Council on Licensure Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) or other insurance regulatory organizations.
  • Advanced-level skills and experience in Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook.
