The Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive the development of modern scalable and high-performance web applications that empower emergency responders and law enforcement professionals. The Staff Software Engineer (Front End) will lead efforts to create and evolve our UI component team and system ensuring consistency reusability accessibility and ADA compliance across all products. You will also leverage AI to generate optimize and scale component trees accelerating design-to-code workflows and improving developer productivity.

What You Do

Technical Leadership:

  • Define and uphold frontend architecture coding standards and best practices.
  • Lead code reviews technical discussions and mentor engineers at all levels.
  • Drive the roadmap and governance of Versaterms UI component system.

Frontend Development:

  • Build and maintain responsive performant and accessible UIs using Vue (and other modern frameworks as applicable).
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to design efficient APIs and integrations.
  • Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility.

Collaboration & Delivery:

  • Partner with UX designers to bring intuitive workflows to life for first responders.
  • Scope prioritize and deliver features in agile sprints.
  • Champion test-driven development and CI/CD practices.

Component System Ownership:

  • Architect maintain and evolve a scalable design system and component library used across multiple products.
  • Partner with designers to translate patterns into reusable production-ready components.
  • Establish contribution guidelines and documentation to enable adoption by other teams.

AI-Driven Development:

  • Use AI tools like ChatGPT to generate and refine component trees.
  • Explore AI-assisted coding techniques to streamline development and improve quality.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging AI capabilities to scale design system adoption and speed.

Learning & Growth:

  • Stay current with frontend trends AI tooling and frameworks and assess adoption where appropriate.
  • Advocate for accessibility (WCAG and ADA compliance) and performance optimization.
  • Drive improvements in processes tooling and developer experience.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • 6 years of professional software development experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
  • 6 years of product design experience with a focus on human-centered design.
  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript HTML5 CSS3 and React (or similar modern frameworks).
  • Experience designing and maintaining scalable UI component systems or design systems.
  • Hands-on experience using Twitter Bootstrap Tailwind and Material Design.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG ADA) responsive design and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools for generating managing or optimizing component structures.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines Git and agile practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor and lead effectively.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience rolling out and governing design systems across multiple products and teams.
  • Familiarity with state management solutions (e.g. Redux Zustand).
  • Exposure to backend technologies ( GraphQL REST APIs).
  • Strong design sensibility with the ability to preserve design quality and translate design intent into robust production-ready code.
  • Passion for public safety and creating software that saves lives.
