Lead Educator Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site (Recreation Assistant I)

About the Job:This is a multi-faceted position working in various roles including but not limited to lead instructor for School the RANCH educator for seasonal field trips interpreter for summer living history program and facilitator of public outreach.

Job Type:Full time

Work Schedule:The work schedule will require weekend work and some holiday work.

As a Recreation Assistant I you will:
  • Lead the development implementation and evaluation of outdoor education programs and activities for School at the RANCH that meet state educational standards
  • Encourage natural and cultural resource conservation by assisting in the designing planning and providing of inclusive historical interpretive programming for a variety of participants
  • Participate in public outreach programs that promote Rock Ledge Ranch
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of public events that advance the Ranchs mission of education and stewardship
  • Communicate effectively with students and families who participate in the Ranchs youth programs
  • Attend training when possible
  • Provide first responder aid and communication with Fire Rescue and Police personnel during emergencies

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
  • Colorado State Standards for Education
  • Historical interpretive techniques
  • Colorado history specifically Pikes Peak regional history
  • Childhood development practices and educational philosophy
  • Microsoft Suite (proficient)
Ability to:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations
  • Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to visitors

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).

  • One year of full-time professional experience in a related field.

Certifications and Licenses: Must possess or be able to acquire the following certifications and/or licenses required in accordance with standards established by departmental policy.

  • Possess or obtain within three months of hire CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and First Aid certifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history education agriculture environmental science or a related field
  • One or more years of experience working with school-aged children
  • Possess Certified Interpretive Guide Certification with the National Association for Interpretation

Additional Information

This position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally. The ability to stand walk climb crouch bend and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions is required. The ability to hike three to four miles per day over uneven terrain and steep trails is also required.
