*** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin November 2025 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.

Duties:


Under the general supervision of the Student Development Coordinator of the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center plan and coordinate Title III Paieie Activity 2 initiatives for University of Hawaii Hilo (UHH) and Hawaii Community College (HCC) students through the University of Hawaii Hilo Edith Kanakaole Hawaiian Collection.


  1. Develop and facilitate student workshops cultural engagement programs and instructional collaborations that integrate Indigenous knowledge systems across disciplines.
  2. Conduct coordinate and evaluate student success and development activities with a focus on student engagement and persistence.
  3. Oversee and maintain data collection for student participants.
  4. Work in multiple work settings and maintain a variable work schedule as required.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian culture values and Indigenous knowledge systems.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of University of Hawaii at Hilo programs and services.
  4. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  5. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.

Desirable Qualifications:


  1. Fluent in Hawaiian language.
