The Tax Accountant plays a key role in ensuring compliance with income tax and property tax laws and regulations as well as maintaining the companys fixed assets in accordance with our corporate capitalization policy. This position requires a thorough understanding of our business units and the industries we operate in. The responsibilities include preparing tax workpapers preparing tax projections conducting tax research responding to tax notices and remaining updated on changes in tax laws. A solid accounting foundation is essential with duties extending to journal entries and account reconciliations. The ideal candidate proactively leverages technology to enhance processes embraces a mindset of continuous improvement and is flexible and able to adapt to evolving requirements and new challenges.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain fixed asset records depreciation schedules and reconciliations and ensure compliance with the fixed asset policy
Prepare income tax projections for quarterly tax estimates
Prepare file and manage property tax filings
Prepare tax work papers
Manage third party tax preparer and review tax returns prior to submission
Make track and reconcile business tax payments
Conduct tax research and respond to tax notices to ensure compliance
Update policy documents to guide entities on proper classification of transactions
Serve as a backup for closing books and accounting records for investments and partnerships including preparing related financial reports
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels of the organization and third parties
Maintains confidentiality and high ethical standards
Experience with S-Corporation Partnership Trust and Individual income tax compliance
Multi-state tax knowledge and experience
Thorough understanding of GAAP
Proficient in accounting for fixed assets
Experienced in using accounting software
Skilled in preparing detailed tax schedules and work papers
Exceptional problem-solving abilities and keen attention to detail
Education and Required Experience:
Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field required
CPA certification or progress towards CPA is preferred
Minimum of three years of experience in accounting or tax preferably with fixed assets income tax and property tax
