OVERVIEW
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is seeking a dedicated Project Manager to join our Projects and Infrastructure team. This role is crucial for organizing and driving the successful completion of ongoing projects. Key responsibilities include developing and managing project plans schedules budgets and expenditures coordinating stakeholder meetings and ensuring timely delivery of project milestones. Please note this is not an IT position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Develop maintain and monitor comprehensive project plans charters requirements schedules work hours budgets and expenditures.
- Manage projects of varying sizes based on skill and experience.
- Oversee and control ongoing projects by tracking budget schedule and quality metrics.
- Utilize variance analysis for project control.
- Lead change management processes for projects.
- Represent USSRC in meetings with stakeholders architects engineers and contractors ensuring clear communication and collaboration.
- Document key actions and decisions from meetings and ensure follow-up on these items.
- Prepare and deliver presentation materials for meetings.
- Perform project tasks as needed to support overall project goals.
- Ensure all projects adhere to established frameworks maintaining accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assess project risks and issues providing timely solutions where applicable.
- Manage project correspondence including proposals memos meeting minutes and emails.
- Ensure overall project quality control by reviewing designs for compliance with engineering principles company standards customer requirements and related specifications.
- Escalate issues to upper management when necessary.
- Plan and organize staff assignments according to project needs ensuring the right personnel are allocated to specific tasks.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of contract terms and specifications.
- Protect USSRCs interests by minimizing conflicts and professionally resolving issues.
- Develop and manage project budgets to ensure adherence to projected margins.
- Submit timely and accurate cost estimations for projects adhering to USSRCs policies procedures and purchasing guidelines.
- Gather and assemble quotes and estimates for project classification and procurement initiation.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
Travel Required: Limited
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
- High school diploma required.
- Associates degree or higher in pre-engineering project management business engineering design construction management or equivalent experience in the daily management of construction projects preferred.
- Professional license or certificates such as PMP Alabama home builders or contractors license preferred.
Required Experience
- A minimum of 5-10 years of project or construction management experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong ability to form and foster collaborative relationships both within the organization and externally.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with project management software tools.
- Experience working with the Alabama Division of Construction Management (DCM) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods (4-6 hours) while conducting business over the phone and operating a computer terminal.
- Ability to walk and climb stairs to access different departments.
- Capability to carry and lift items up to 30 lbs to waist height.
- Adequate sight reading ability and wrist movements to operate a computer terminal handle documents and create reports.
- Effective verbal communication and hearing ability to instruct employees and assist guests and service providers in person and over the telephone.
Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Factors
- Work indoors and outdoors in various temperatures and weather conditions.
Expected Hours of Work
- 8 am-5 pm Monday Friday with occasional after-hours and weekend hours required.
