Position Description

NYU Madrid is seeking a local part-time instructor to teach the course Contemporary Spanish Politics in Comparative Perspective. The course will run during the Spring semesters beginning in Spring 2026 (January 19-May 12).

The course is taught in English. Candidates must be legally able to work in Spain at the time of application.

Course Description

The course focuses on contemporary Spanish politics in comparative perspective. While the topics could vary according to the expertise of the instructor the course is expected to use the tools of modern political science to explain recent politics and political developments in Spain. Topics covered could include: federalism/decentralization; elections and voting; governance and accountability; public opinion; electoral institutions parties party systems and new parties; parliament and coalition politics; politics of economic change; politics of identify; politics of migration; politics of the welfare state; politics and inequality; and/or EU sentiment/populism/nativismall with a principal focus on Spain.



The instructor should hold a PhD in political science (or a closely related field such as economics or social science) and have a credible research record including publications in well-regarded international journals.

Candidates must be legally able to work in Spain at the time of application.
