Description

The primary goal of this position is to perform individual work and/or to help lead project-oriented teams to evaluate analyze and develop new business and investment opportunities for Mayo Clinic including but not limited to partnerships joint ventures new company spin-offs mergers & acquisitions equity investments and/or other types of collaboration. Additional skills and responsibilities either through individual work contribution or through working within and helping to lead project-oriented teams may include: contributions to strategic planning and prioritization business plan creation due diligence market research marketing plan development concept analysis business model development financial pro-forma development and analysis valuations legal/regulatory issues assessment and monitoring product/operating unit performance. The candidate will also be expected to support the management and evaluation of Mayo Clinics fund portfolio requiring exceptional analytical and quantitative skills to assess fund performance model returns and inform data-driven investment strategies. Successful candidate will maintain familiarity and work in alignment with the overall Mayo Clinic strategic plan prioritized market opportunities and competitive activity in addition to focusing within their assigned strategic area of focus. The position works with areas throughout Mayo Clinic and the marketplace to identify new business opportunities including the ability to connect these activities with existing Mayo Clinic operational units. To this end successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development of a network of industry entrepreneurial and investor contacts to serve as a resource for business development and/or commercialization activities. Success in the role will be primarily related to the incumbents ability to shepherd an opportunity from concept to final disposition and in contributing to the messaging and consensus-building required to reach decisions in a highly-matrixed academic medical center environment.



Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess an MBA or the equivalent and/or an advanced degree in a relevant field ( MD JD) and a minimum 5 years relevant work experience. Must be able to demonstrate successful business development work including a deal sheet/transaction list. Candidates must have experience or expertise in business development work such as deal sourcing deal flow functions and management corporate structure and relationship design and development financial analysis and business plan development and related functions; and/or experience or expertise in one (or more) of the strategic areas of focus (verticals): Laboratory Medicine/Diagnostics or related industries/markets; IT Platform/Digital Health/Artificial Intelligence/Data Asset Strategy; International (outside U.S.) opportunity evaluation corporate development project and opportunity development; Practice operations and/or new business line growth and any associated transactions; Large-opportunity development related to any of the above areas resulting in high-value high-visibility outcomes. Previous experience with a national or regional consulting firm financial institution academic medical center or Corporate Development team of a large national or multinational relevant industry company may be viewed especially favorably. Must have the demonstrated ability to manage complex inter- and intra-organizational issues and relationships. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of different people with diverse backgrounds. Requires demonstrated skills in financial and strategic analysis valuation project management time management and the ability to manage several initiatives simultaneously. Demonstrated experience in fund portfolio analysis and management with strong analytical and quantitative skills to support investment evaluation and decision-making. Entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial qualities; strong analytical skills; resourceful and able to work independently on assigned projects. An advanced degree in a scientific discipline (e.g.: life sciences) healthcare administration and/or Chartered Financial Analyst certification (CFA) (complete or in progress) are pluses.
