We are seeking a CDL Operator( Class A or Class B) for the Railroad Mechanical Load Adjust team. You will be responsible for operating commercial motor vehicles and heavy equipment to support railroad mechanical and load adjustment operations. This position involves transporting materials tools and equipment to job sites assisting with railcar load securement and performing general mechanical and labor tasks related to ensuring freight safety and compliance.
The role combines truck driving duties with hands-on railroad load adjustment work contributing to the safe and efficient movement of railcars through mechanical and logistical support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate Class A or B CDL vehicles (such as flatbeds dump trucks or service trucks) to transport materials equipment and personnel to and from work sites.
- Assist mechanical crews in inspecting adjusting blocking bracing and securing loads on railcars according to AAR FRA and company standards.
- Load unload and handle securement materials such as chains straps timbers and dunnage.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles; report and document any maintenance or safety issues.
- Safely operate forklifts cranes or other material handling equipment as needed.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness fuel logs and DOT-required documentation.
- Follow all DOT FRA OSHA and company safety procedures and regulations.
- Work closely with supervisors and rail yard personnel to ensure efficient compliant and timely operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned including mechanical and general labor tasks.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with clean driving record.
- Prior experience in transportation construction rail operations or load securement preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT FRA and OSHA safety standards strongly desired.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate and maneuver large vehicles safely in rail yard or industrial environments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand/power tools.
- Ability to perform physical labor including lifting climbing and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Team-oriented with excellent communication and situational awareness.
- Willingness to work variable schedules including nights weekends and holidays as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Work performed outdoors in active rail yard or industrial settings.
- Exposure to noise dust moving equipment and varying weather.
- Must be able to climb railcars bend kneel and work in tight or elevated areas.
- PPE (hard hat safety glasses gloves steel-toe boots hearing protection and high-visibility clothing) required.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive manual tasks.
- Sit for extended periods while driving.
- Stand walk bend and climb throughout shift.
- Maintain DOT medical certification and pass drug/alcohol testing.
