Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at Norfolk State University is seeking applications for a 9-month tenure-track Computer Science position at the rank of Assistant Professor. A review of applications will begin November 21 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. This position opened on November 12 2025 and there is a five consecutive workdays minimum posting requirement

Responsibilities
Duties include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; developing curricula; serving on departmental school and university committees; performing appropriate scholarly and service activities; obtaining external funding and conducting research in computer science.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. (or equivalent) in computer science or a closely related field. A doctoral ABD candidate will be considered if degree completion is by June 1.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and skills to teach a variety of computer science courses.
  3. Evidence of potential for scholarly productivity in Software Engineering or Artificial Intelligence.
  4. Proficient in spoken and written English adequate for classroom instruction and academic communication.
  5. Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Will not require sponsorship.

Additional Considerations

  1. Demonstrated teaching experience with non-traditional at the college/university level specifically with non-traditional or first-generation students.
  2. Evidence of active research in Software Engineering or Artificial Intelligence.
  3. Experience in curriculum design development or revision and/or innovative teaching methods.
  4. Record of service and/or student mentoring
