Description

The Lead Sleep Technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. This individual can perform the duties defined for a sleep technologist and is competent in all aspects of home sleep testing. Demonstrates organizational computer interpersonal and technical skills.



Responsibilities

analyzes and integrates patient information to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure pertinent medical/social history).

final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.

the patients history and verifies the medical order. Follows sleep center protocols related to the sleep study.

patient arrival verifies identification collects documents and obtains consent for the study.

the procedure and orients the patient for either in center or out of center sleep testing.

appropriate equipment and calibrates for testing to determine proper functioning and adjusts if necessary.

electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.

routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.

procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) parasomnia studies PAP and oxygen titration etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data.

data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies corrects and documents artifact.

routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events changes in procedure and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure oxygen administration etc.).

sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.

clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events limb movements arousals etc.) utilizing AASM standards.

accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment assessment and education of neonatal pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients.

the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.

patient education and instruction appropriate for out of center sleep testing.

adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices.

adherence to AASM scoring parameters for OCST; identify artifact inadequate signals and study failures and generate an accurate report.

with applicable laws regulations guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.

with inpatient sleep studies both clinical and research

with inventory and supply/equipment ordering

with quality assurance checks infection control monitoring and corporate compliance

all ad hoc projects and tasks as required or as directed by the supervisor or site director



Qualifications
  • High school graduate or the equivalent.
  • Associate or higher degree program in polysomnographic technology preferred.
  • 5 years minimum experience as a Polysomnographic Technician or Technologist.
  • Authorized Polysomnographic Technologist licensed in New York State in good standing
  • Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification
