The ASE Certified Automotive Technician will provide services and support to the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center contract located at Edwards AFB California and Palmdale California. The ASE Certified Automotive Technician will perform duties primarily associated with SCA Labor Category Automotive Worker from the SCA Directory of Occupations 5th edition.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide automotive technician services and parts support for in-house fleet vehicle maintenance repairs and services.
- Maintain and repair AFRC vehicles in accordance with FMR 102-34 NPR 6200 and the NASA Fleet Handbook.
- Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment including but not limited to: Oil changes tire rotations filter replacements brake and hydraulic exhaust primary fuel ignition and electrical suspension and alignment air conditioning and computer systems.
- Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals.
- Stay current with rapidly changing automotive technology through continuous paid formal training.
- Assist technicians/mechanics in performing technical activities.
- Use schematics and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve electrical issues
- Perform inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment meet safety standards
- Operate power tools and other specialized equipment to complete repairs
Requirements
- A.S.E. certification in at least one of A1-A8 (L1 certification acceptable)
- Must have a valid automobile drivers license at all times and be able to drive customer and company vehicles
- Proven experience as a Mechanic
- Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
- Proficient in using power tools and diagnostic equipment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Skilled in general automotive maintenance
- Current federal state and local certification/license where applicable
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people
- Reading writing and math skills.
- Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of automotive repair experience demonstrated skills via third party assessments/certifications or completion of Vocational-Technical School Program
- Must have clean driving record
- Ability to obtain and retain a Secret security clearance
- Must be able to clearly read write speak and comprehend English
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including being on your feet most of the day and lifting requirements
- Ability to be trained and certified for position requirements
