A Day in the Life: What You Will Do
As a DSP you are the heart of our mission: empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). You will gain direct hands-on experience in high-value skills that will set you apart in your field:
- Patient Care & Support: Provide respectful hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) personal care grooming and mobility.
- Healthcare Skills: Gain experience in medication administration monitoring physical and mental health needs and preparing nutritious meals.
- Case Management & Advocacy: Serve as a patient advocate and participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Support Plans (ISPs).
- Clinical Documentation: Complete all necessary documentation of care service provision and medication logsa critical skill in all healthcare fields.
- Behavioral Support: Learn to implement positive behavior supports follow person-centered support plans and use de-escalation strategies.
What You Bring to the Table (Qualifications)

What We Require (The Must-Haves):
- A compassionate patient and encouraging attitude
- A strong desire to learn and gain hands-on healthcare experience
- 18 years old or older
- A High School Diploma or GED
- A valid drivers license reliable transportation/vehicle and valid auto insurance
- Ability to pass a background check
What We Value (Our Ideal Candidate):
- Students & Pre-Professionals: Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a program in Nursing Social Work Psychology Pre-Med child education or a related human services field.
- Natural Caregivers: Have you been an unpaid family caregiver for a loved one We recognize your skills are valuable and will train you.
- Experienced Professionals: Experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) Personal Care Aide (PCA) Home Health Aide (HHA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a major plus.
