Reports To: Executive Director of Student Transportation
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 day 12-month / Non-Exempt/8 hours per day

Position Purpose: The Transportation Router is responsible for establishing bus routes for the transportation of students assigned to district schools who are eligible for transportation under the Student Assignment Plan; selecting feasible alternatives for change requests and need replacements; and maintenance of the computerized routing system. This position is responsible for coordinating monitoring and organizing job-related activities for the safe effective and efficient transportation of students.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Responsible for developing and making necessary adjustments to existing special needs routes.
- Must be able to work daily in a collaborative environment with other routers dispatchers and bus drivers to ensure all special needs requests are routed for students with safety and efficiency.
- Must transcribe information accurately.
- Ability to give and receive routine and non-routine information.
- Analyze and evaluate numerous detailed materials to include efficiently interpreting and implementing these findings.
- Knowledge of the District geography accommodation requirements of special needs students and an understanding of District policies as they pertain to transportation.
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the multidimensional responsibilities related to transporting students with diverse needs and backgrounds.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by Director Supervisor Manager and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position will require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machine. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Local travel may be required.

- Must be able to respond in a timely manner to internal and external inquiries; emergency situations and fast-paced environment.
- Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is frequently required to use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and computer display monitor.
- The work environment is in an office that combines standard office equipment (fax copier phone computer etc.) with the standard office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

- For schools and district departments to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates degree preferred.
- Three to five years experience transporting students.
- Three to five years of responsible work experience with training/experience in transportation routing preferred
- Knowledge of job related safety laws guidelines and procedures preferred
- Successful experience and knowledge working with Edulog software preferred.
- Proficient knowledge and experience working with MS Windows based computer and software.
- Proficient critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and use written quantitative and detailed pictorial materials.
- Ability to give and/or receive routine and non-routine job-related information.
- Demonstrated telephone customer service skills on the telephone and in transcribing accurate information.
- Ability to use keyboarding devices efficiently and accurately to enter information on the transportation computer routing system.
- Skills in coordinating monitoring and organizing job-related activities.
Terms of Employment:
This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time.
