A Day in the Life

The Sr. Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager at Medtronic leads the implementation and management of comprehensive EHS programs across the Colorado Campus (Boulder Louisville and Parker). This role ensures compliance with federal state and local regulations as well as company policies while promoting a strong safety culture. The manager drives risk reduction through proactive assessment incident trend analysis and continuous improvement initiatives and provides leadership and development for a team of EHS professionals. Key responsibilities include industrial safety environmental compliance machine and electrical safety ergonomic injury prevention hazardous materials management and EHS training. The position requires collaboration with site leadership cross-functional teams and global EHS networks along with flexibility to support 24/7 operations.

A Day in the Life

As a Sr. EHS Manager you will lead the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety policies programs and systems to ensure compliance with federal state local and company regulations. You will build trust and influence change across cross-functional operations teams through comprehensive risk assessment safety data analysis and clear communication.

You will manage and develop a team of EHS professionals to execute proactive EHS initiatives focusing on:

  • Manufacturing operations

  • Industrial safety

  • Risk assessment and controls using hierarchy of controls

  • Industrial hygiene and ergonomic injury reduction

  • Regulated waste management

  • Machine and electrical safety

  • Environmental reporting (air waste water)

You will monitor workplace safety risks and environmental impacts by observing work processes equipment and employee habits to ensure a strong safety and health culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop implement and enforce EHS procedures and programs in alignment with regulatory and company requirements including:

    • Hazard communication

    • Hazardous materials management

    • Respiratory protection and hearing conservation

    • Lock-out/tag-out and emergency response

    • Confined space PPE ergonomic safety

    • Industrial hygiene material handling machine safety

    • Hazardous waste and wastewater management

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Colorado Campus Site Leadership Team to drive long-term risk reduction.

  • Lead and develop the EHS team to implement programs and promote a safety culture.

  • Measure site performance against EHS Management System requirements; identify and implement corrective actions.

  • Manage projects to drive world-class EHS performance; conduct Kaizen events with Operations teams based on identified risks.

  • Identify potential threats to worker health and safety; recommend process or material improvements and ensure timely corrective actions.

  • Analyze safety metrics and incident trends to allocate resources effectively.

  • Promote employee training and awareness on EHS matters to foster accountability and a culture of belonging.

  • Evaluate regulations for financial operational and environmental impact; collaborate with regulatory agencies on compliance.

  • Review and improve deployed EHS tools to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with global EHS networks to leverage best practices at the Colorado Campus.

  • Conduct environmental studies impact reports and support audits construction projects and permit compliance.

  • Represent Medtronic in government and industry rule-making activities as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Management Engineering or Science discipline.

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant EHS experience in Lean Six Sigma manufacturing organizations with 5 years in a managerial role

  • OR Advanced degree with 5 years of relevant experience and 5 years managerial experience

  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including nights and weekends to support 24/7 operations.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Advanced degree

  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma manufacturing environments

  • Strong leadership project management and communication skills

  • Strong project management experience with multi-phase projects and diverse stakeholders.

  • Leadership through influence in matrixed and cross-cultural environments.

  • Advocacy for EHS and Sustainability at leadership levels.

  • Implementation of EHS programs across multinational organizations.

  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) OSHA training.

  • Experience in data analytics for EHS systems.

  • Strong leadership team-building problem-solving and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and training capabilities.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$143200.00 - $214800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience certification/education market conditions and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
