Job Summary

Role

The FATF Secretariat is looking for Young Associates to support the activities and functions of the FATFs work and activities on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism and proliferation (AML/CFT/CPF) issues. Key areas of work include support to FATFs engagements and representation; supporting the assessments of AML/CFT measures of countries against the revised FATF Recommendations; and research and analysis to support policy development. The Young Associate will report to a Team lead of the FATF Secretariat.

Main Responsibilities

Liaison and representation

  • Contribute to the preparation of FATF meetings including the Plenary and working groups.
  • Contribute to FATFs international outreach by supporting engagements with the FATF-style regional bodies (in Africa Asia Middle-East Eurasia etc.) G20 and UN and supporting FATFs participation in international meetings to promote its activities and work.
  • Help organise and support outreach activities including forums workshops webinars and meetings and prepare content such as presentations speeches and Q&A and briefing materials.

Assessment of countries

Contribute to the preparation of mutual evaluation reports and other country assessment reports by:

  • Collecting compiling and analysing basic preliminary background research on the results of recent monitoring or assessments as well as inputs from the Global Network on international cooperation and risk and context. 
  • Identifying and compiling relevant case studies or typologies cited in FATF reports.
  • Become proficient in using Stat Data Explorer (a JavaScript application / research and analytical tool) to compare the results of country assessments to ensure that a similar approach is being taken in similar circumstances for countries with similar risks materiality and context. 

Policy Analysis and development

  • Conduct basic research and literature reviews on AML/CFT/CPF issues and synthesise large amounts of data into concise summaries while deepening knowledge of the FATF Standards and building expertise in the field.
  • Collect and conduct basic analysis of qualitative and quantitative information data and cases to provide a sound evidence-base for reports and policy decisions including on the identification of risks.
  • Assist in drafting analytical reports on other relevant topics as necessary. Prepare concise summaries of meetings. Support communications activities.
  • Stay abreast of emerging risks best practices and policy developments in the field of AML/CFT/CPF while strengthening own skills and knowledge of policy analysis research methods and techniques including data collection and analysis.

Qualifications :

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • Undergraduate degree in law public policy finance international relations or a related discipline (statistics econometrics) (graduation date between 1 January 2025 and 1 September 2026). Applications from candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Masters PhD or equivalent degree will not be considered.
  • Course work in one of the following areas is required: law public policy finance international relations statistics or econometrics.

Tools

  • Experience in working with the Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of analytical tools such as Excel or Stat Data Explorer (or other JavaScript applications) or Access would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of visual design tools would also be an advantage.
  • Experience in using a learning management system and/or development of e-learning video or audio training would be an advantage (e.g. IT systems etc.).

Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong strategic thinking abilities.
  • Knowledge of the global financial system and criminology or financial crimes would be an advantage.
  • Organisation initiative energy and commitment to producing high-quality results on a timely basis.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of or willingness to learn the other.
