Job Summary

We are currently hiring for a Material Handler 1 for a 6 Month Temporary placement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all material handling & control.
  • Physically receives material; verifies to packing slips and requirements; enters in MRP system; storage and packaging; provisioning; inventory control.
  • Confirms materials are correctly identified and received without damage (ID and Damage).
  • Review documents related to each receipt to determine compliance.
  • Assures no package is received with damage without following the proper process. Issues material; verifies/completes required documents; enters transaction/records data in MRP system; conducts material cycle counts and location/cycle count confirmation; originates and processes discrepancy reports.
  • Performs material kitting to meet MRP and/or customer requirements; maintains the kits until completion; delivers to customers point of need or parts window.
  • Moves materials manually or with carts pallet lifter and forklifts.
  • In rotation serves customers at parts window; performs other related duties as required.
  • Other related duties as required.

Complexity

  • Work is structured and well documented. Some work is routine and repetitive e.g. kitting.
  • Recognizes and reports on irregularities/issues; may make minor choices in task completion

Initiative and Accountability

  • Work is assigned daily by supervisor Lead Hand or through MRP system. Work is prioritized and monitored by task progress/completion and metrics e.g. kit accuracy cycle counting time quality.
  • Accountable for the timely completion and quality of own work. Responsible to safeguard people equipment and property within stated guidelines in the completion of tasks.
  • Uses initiative to move to next task without instruction provide appropriate customer service (parts window) and maintain orderly work area.

Communication and Giving Guidance

  • Communicates effectively (verbal/written) with team members and interacts with internal and external customers.
  • May provide guidance to Material Helper; assists team members to achieve assigned tasks; keeps team and supervisor informed of progress and situations requiring attention of others.
  • Contributes ideas to improve processes.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a Grade 12 level of education at an Ontario secondary school.
  • Requires over 1 year up to and including 2 years of related experience in inventory management in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. Basic computer skills.  Experience with company ERP system. Valid provincial drivers license and forklift operators license.
  • Must take the Safe Lifting Practices course

Effort and Working Environment

As part of the interview process candidates may be required to complete a physical assessment to ensure they can safely perform the essential duties of the role (e.g. lifting carrying and operating equipment).

  • Physical Effort
    • Daily labour including bending pushing/pulling walking climbing (ladder or stairs).
    • Lifting carrying handling materials and units (<50lbs).
  • Sensory Effort
    • Extended periods of visual attention for reading comparing matching and counting. 
  • Working Environment
    • Works with heavy equipment and tools daily. Some exposure to dust/dirt and adverse weather conditions (loading dock driving truck).
    • Required to handle Chemicals and decant from supplied containers.
    • Extensive repetition when preparing kits.
    • Moderate interruptions to serve customers at parts window.
    • Responsible for daily safety checks for the forklift.

Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
