About The Opportunity

The focus of this position is to provide planning advice and assessment of the impacts of a range of development matters within the Region to ensure that development reflects Councils desired objectives and standards whilst also ensuring that land use and development meet statutory requirements and community expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice to prospective developers consultants internal stakeholders and the public on a range of planning land use and development matters and to assess the impacts of development activities within the Region including handling of public enquiries.
  • Timely assessment of low complexity development applications to meet statutory requirements council timeframes and policy documents.
  • Consideration preparation and authorisation of assigned professional planning reports and documents within statutory and Council timeframes within the limits of delegated authority;development compliance assistance and approving plans of subdivision within time frames set by Council.
  • Accurate actioning of correspondence relating to Planning matters in a timely manner.
  • Assist with and/or undertake as necessary the processing of plans of subdivision.
  • Actively participate in the preparation of statutory and strategic planning instruments as required.
  • Preparation of Planning and Development Certificates and Property Search investigations

Inspection of completed works to ensure compliance with Development conditions including

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following key selection criteria:

Mandatory:

  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • Previous experience in a Queensland Local Government.
  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation with demonstrated experience in doing so.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including experience using geographical information systems (GIS) such as GTX.

Desired:

  • A qualification in or willingness to undertake a Diploma of Local Government (Planning) or a higher degree recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia /or currently studying towards one.
  • Experience in Local Government Town Planning or Development Assessment department or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
