Description
Title: KVCC Financial Aid Counselor
Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: Salary and benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the Maine Community College System (MCCS) and the Maine Education Association Administrators Bargaining Unit; Level II $40038.85-$52241.59.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the first point of contact for students responding to inquiries by phone email and in person regarding financial aid programs and eligibility
- Provide counseling on student aid programs and eligibility to students and families
- Review and process files from COD and FPS
- Monitor communications from the Department of Education to be aware of any changes in rules or procedures for Federal Student Aid Programs
- Implement publicize and increase student participation in the IGrad/ECMC financial literacy/debt management programs collaborating with staff and faculty
- Assist with special projects as assigned by the director of financial aid such as reconciliation of funds special grants and reports
- Support the assistant director with administration of veterans/veteran dependent benefits
- Participate in peak award processing periods to ensure timely awarding and prevent over awarding
- Manage the awarding and adjustment of KVCC Foundation and MCCS scholarship funds
- Adjust financial aid awards to reflect changes in student enrollment status course load or student loan requests
- Monitor and review student course withdrawals for required adjustments to aid packages in compliance with federal and institutional policies
- Maintain financial aid information on the KVCC website
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree and at least two years of prior employment preferably in a role involving financial services or college enrollment services
- Strong general office and computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word Excel and basic database systems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively assist diverse groups of students and parents
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks and deadlines
- Reliability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to ensure office coverage
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Two or more years of direct experience working in a college financial aid office experience handling confidential financial information or enrollment related documentation
- Familiarity with financial aid software systems such as Jenzabar PowerFAIDS Anthology and U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid platforms (COD FPS NSLDS etc.)
