The Opportunity
Lacombe County and the Town of Eckville are seeking a District Fire Chief to lead the operations of the Eckville District Fire Department ensuring effective fire services in the community. Note: This is a paid-on call position ($36.84/hr for responses and response related activities $4988.25/year honorarium $50 monthly cell phone allowance).
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Administration
Under the direction of the County Fire Chief manage the overall daily/weekly activities and operations of the Eckville District Fire Department ensuring smooth functioning and adherence to safety standards. Reporting to the Lacombe County Fire Chief collaborate to align departmental goals and objectives.
Oversee the department administration and operational planning and monitor budgeting.
Emergency Response & Fire Suppression
Lead emergency response operations coordinating fire suppression efforts and directing personnel on scene. Ensure proper deployment of personnel and resources to protect lives and property.
Act as Incident Commander during emergency incidents until relieved by higher authorities.
Training & Safety Management
Direct the Firefighter Training Program ensuring all team members are properly trained and equipped.
Oversee the departments Occupational Health and Safety programs to maintain safe working conditions. Act as a Basic Safety Codes Officer (Fire Discipline) ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations. Perform duties of Fire Investigator & Inspector as required.
Team Leadership & Support
Oversee and provide mentorship to all positions within the department including the Deputy Fire Chief(s) firefighters work experience students and new recruits. Promote a culture of teamwork professionalism and continuous development throughout the department.
What We Are Looking For:
Were looking for someone with significant experience in fire services emergency response and leadership. The ideal candidate has strong skills in administration budgeting and managing personnel. The candidate must have a strong knowledge of fire codes safety regulations and firefighter practices.
Preferred educational requirements include: NFPA Standard 1021 Professional Qualifications for Fire Officer NFPA Standard 1033 Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator Incident Command System 300 Basic Safety Codes Officer (Fire Discipline) and a valid Alberta Class 3 drivers license or equivalent with Q (air brake) endorsement or willingness to obtain.
