Position Description

If you love engaging in manual projects supporting the U.S Navy and our U.S Naval Ships Serco has a great opportunity for you! Serco is hiring a Mechanical Assembler (Senior-Level) to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy with equipment and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surrounds of NorfolkVirginia.

Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling equipment and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques

You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-boardU.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In this role you will:

  • Follow blueprints guidelines and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform work with standard concepts practices and procedures within field.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts noise temperature variation and the like and with equipment where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts bruises muscle strains serious injury or death.

Qualifications

To be successful in these roles you will have:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 8 years shipboard experience.
  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS) undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
  • The ability to obtain a Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.
  • A combination of experience in the following areas:
    • Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways deck plates & equipment
    • Drill holes (with supervision)
    • Operate light machinery/ equipment (with training)
    • Position join align wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections
    • Ability to follow directions of senior employees
    • Carry equipment & clean spaces
    • Remove lagging & paint
  • The ability to Identify safety concerns in immediate work environment
  • Sound technical knowledge base of disciplines standard concepts principles and techniques.
  • The ability to work in high heat spaces climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying pushing and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing crouching or walking position.
  • The ability and bewilling to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
  • The ability to work independently in a team environment and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines.
  • The ability to work onsite in Chesapeake VA.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • An active DoD Secret Clearance
  • An OSHA Certification
