Scope: The Communications Associate will help support the Colorado Sierra Clubs efforts to communicate with our base volunteers the general public and donors about our priorities of advancing climate justice protecting the places that make our state special and defending clean air and water. This is a full-time position focused on building relationships and communicating with press developing and maintaining our digital communications and producing materials to support fundraising and organizing efforts. This position will work with chapter staff and volunteer leaders to develop and share messages to promote our campaigns and action opportunities with our members and followers.
Job activities include but are not limited to:
- Press and Public Relations management. Pitches Sierra Club stories to the media. Writes and releases statements to the press. Helps coordinate responses to the media on all appropriate topics. Builds and maintains relationships with reporters. Coordinates with National colleagues on press strategies. Supports and coordinates the drafting submission and amplification of opinion pieces with staff and volunteers.
- Mass emails texts & action alert management. Write copy for create and send emails for campaigns fundraising and cultivation in Marketing Cloud. Help schedule prepare and send mass text messages using Hustle. Develops action alerts to engage and recruit supporters.
- Social media management & website content development. Schedule engaging daily posts and stories that highlight Colorado Sierra Clubs work and issue areas on our social media accounts. Maintain our website with blog posts and up-to-date static content. Use Sierra Clubs Campfire Events platform to maintain our online events calendar. Coordinate with staff and volunteer teams on content.
- Multimedia content creation for Chapter communications and outreach platforms. Ensure content (such as newsletters impact reports etc) for donors supporters and volunteers is consistent with broader Sierra Club messaging goals and implemented strategically. Develop implement and coordinate communications and digital engagement strategy for the full range of chapter campaigns. Create eye-catching shareable content and graphics.
- Communications Training & Support. In coordination with organizing and campaign staff and volunteers provide communications training and support to staff and volunteers. Lead trainings on topics including but not limited to: interacting with the press message development press releases mass email and social media strategies and using communication tools. Recruits onboards and supports volunteers for communications activities and/or a communications team.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

$70000 - $70000 a year
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $70000 annually.
