About the Role
Great Basin Staffing is hiring an Experienced Fiber Splicer to support OSP/ISP build restoration and turn-up work across the Albuquerque area. Youll handle end-to-end splicing (loose tube/ribbon) testing documentation and cutovers while coordinating with a small field crew and client contacts. Schedule flexibility is importantsome night/weekend and on-call work may occur during cut windows.
Key Responsibilities
Perform single-mode/multimode fiber splicing (loose tube and ribbon) with proper slack storage and protection.
Prep splice locations; install/label splice trays closures peds handholes vaults; maintain neat workmanlike results.
Execute mid-sheath access and add/drop splices; place and seal closures to spec.
Test and troubleshoot with OTDR light source/power meter and VFL; document results and update as-builts.
Build/interpret cut sheets splicing schematics and fiber assignment maps; complete job packets and audit sheets daily.
Coordinate traffic/safety setup (cones signs barriers); flagging when required.
Operate and care for assigned vehicle tools and fusion splicing equipment; perform daily inspections.
Communicate professionally with customers/GCs; provide timely job status updates.
Adhere to OSHA/NESC and company safety policies at all times.
Required Qualifications
23 years of verifiable fiber splicing experience (OSP/ISP).
Proficiency with fusion splicers (single-fiber and preferred ribbon) cleavers OTDR LS/PM VFL.
Strong knowledge of fiber color code and documentation practices (cut sheets/splice logs).
Ability to read prints splice schematics and work orders; follow technical procedures.
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; clean driving record.
Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly; work on ladders in manholes/handholes and at heights; tolerance for outdoor conditions.
Willing to work variable hours nights/weekends as needed for cutovers.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
CDL-A or bucket truck experience (higher wage scales may apply).
Aerial and underground construction familiarity (strand/lash risers conduit).
Small-team lead experience (mentoring a splicing laborer/assistant).
Familiarity with client standards and closeout documentation platforms.
Schedule & Working Conditions
Full-time hourly; standard day shift with occasional night/weekend/on-call windows.
Outdoor field work; exposure to weather traffic urban/rural environments and moderate-to-loud noise.
Regular standing kneeling climbing crouching; vision requirements include close/distance/color/peripheral/depth focus.
Pay & Benefits (W2)
$28.00 $35.00/hr DOE OT potential.
Weekly pay.
