Job Summary

To Whom Responsible: Director of Special Services

For What Responsible:To assist the teacher to provide a well-organized smoothly functioning environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Qualifications:

  1. A high school diploma or GED.
  2. 60 hours of college credit sub certificate or credential from a passing score on the Paraprofessional Praxis exam.
  3. Possession of knowledge skills abilities and necessary physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  4. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Confer with teacher to derive information about student(s)
  • May work with student(s) on a one-on-one basis by providing them undivided attention
  • Implement behavioral plans to meet students needs for social educational cognitive mental and physical development
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations such as injuries or medical issues
  • Observe and evaluate student(s) and provide feedback to parents and teachers
  • Assist student(s) with carrying out classroom activities
  • Implement age appropriate activities and monitor safety throughout
  • Help in maintaining a clean and organized classroom
  • Assist with toileting needs
  • Maintain appropriate classroom discipline
  • Ensure that student(s) retain information by repeating information constantly and practicing patience
  • Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills assemblies and field trips
  • Assist the student(s) at lunch recess and all special classes
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student(s) as is expected of the teacher
  • Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills
  • Adhere to all district rules regulations and policies
  • Other duties as required or assigned

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor.
