St. Andrews is seeking a director of security who will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of campus security operations including security personnel management visitor management policy development and implementation emergency preparedness and coordination with local emergency responders including law enforcement agencies. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of implementing effective security strategies managing security personnel and fostering a culture of safety within a diverse campus community.

The director of security must be an armed constable and will play a crucial role in maintaining safety on-campus around-the-clock.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement school security programs policies procedures and protocols to ensure the safety and security of students faculty staff and visitors
  • Manage and oversee a team of security officers and armed constables including recruitment training scheduling and performance management
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify potential vulnerabilities and implement appropriate security measures
  • Coordinate and participate in monthly safety council meetings to address security concerns and promote a culture of safety
  • Act as campus coordinator in the event of a security event or crisis
  • Oversee all security and safety drills
  • Assist with the development of the annual security budget and authorize departmental expenditures
  • Train school employees and students on safe behavior as needed and required
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies and emergency responders to develop and maintain effective emergency response plans and procedures
  • Oversee the operation of campus security systems including cameras access control systems and alarm systems to ensure optimal performance and functionality
  • Respond to and investigate safety and security incidents and take appropriate action following established policies and procedures
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for campus security matters including liaison with external security vendors contractors and regulatory agencies
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in campus security and recommend updates and improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the security program
  • Provide medical assistance administering CPR AED or first aid as needed
  • Physically demanding tasks may include walking (4-5 miles/day) running short distances squatting bending being able to lift at least 45 pounds (potentially removing a victim from harms way) climbing and handling physical confrontations

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a related field such as criminal justice security management public safety or is preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in campus security law enforcement emergency management or a related field including at least three years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Must be a current constable in Delaware. Possess or be eligible for a COPT Firearms card
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders including students faculty staff and external partners
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and respond calmly and decisively during emergency situations
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to analyze complex security issues and develop effective solutions

Physical Demands

  • Position works outdoors in all weather conditions exposure to inclement weather
  • Must be able to lift and or carry a minimum of 45 pounds
  • Must be able to stay on feet for hours at a time as the position spends a significant amount of time patrolling school grounds and buildings
  • The work environment involves some exposure to hazardous or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions

A thorough background check including fingerprinting drug screening and a physical are required as a condition of addition applicants must complete satisfactory reference checks and confirmation of compliance with federal and state employment laws.
