Te whiwhinga mahi: The opportunity

We have an exciting new opportunity for two part-time Kai Manaaki - Screening to join our Tairāwhiti team.

Kai Manaaki Screening are the navigators of Manaakitanga (People at Heart) which focuses on hauora and hinengaro of Tangata Whaiora.

As a Kai Manaaki - Screening you will provide support to whānau to achieve improved equitable outcomes for breast cervical and bowel screenings by working with whānau to build on their self-determination and solution setting. Work collaboratively with community providers support and attend local events promoting hauora and screening awareness and contribute to co-designing and improving how screening services are delivered.

Use your robust communication skills with whānau and develop trusting relationships built on aroha values and respect. The way you work with whānau will build on their knowledge of health and well-being service options and support their ability to make informed decisions about accessing services including providing access to information in a way that aids whanau to make informed decisions.

This role is fixed-term until 2027.



He kōrero mōu: About you



  • Current full drivers license.
  • Experience working in or with Māori or Pasifika communities.
  • Have a high level of cultural intelligence knowledge and experience of Māori models of health and wellbeing and a commitment towards achieving equity for Māori.
  • A strong understanding of Tikanga Māori along with a sound understanding of the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how these relate to specific initiatives for Māori health.
  • Committed to cultural safety equity and passionate about supporting whānau to thrive.
  • Have a NZQA Level 4 healtcare qualification or similar equivalent. Health disability or social services qualification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Hold a current CPR certificate or willingness to complete.
  • Have relevant lived experience so you can use your mātauranga (knowledge) to influence positive health outcomes and support people on their journey to wellbeing.
  • Experience working in outreach health promotion or community development.
  • Value the importance of manaakitanga and a collaborative approach with whānau.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills organised and patient.
  • Familiar with national screening programmes (BSA NCSP NBSP).
  • Proficient in using Office 365 products and competency using video conferencing (e.g. Teams and Zoom).
