Job Summary

Specialist Teaching Assistant Full Time
Location: London
Start: ASAP
Setting: Specialist provision for autistic pupils

If you know how to support autistic children properly not just manage them this is for you.

What youll be doing

  • Supporting autistic pupils with both learning and behaviour in a specialist setting.

  • Using visual communication systems Makaton and assistive tech to help non-verbal learners communicate.

  • Building connection through intensive interaction social engagement turn-taking and early communication skills.

  • Using Positive Behaviour Support and co-regulation to guide pupils through moments of distress safely and effectively.

  • Working closely with teachers SaLT OT and behaviour specialists to follow and improve individual support plans.



Requirements

What were looking for

  • Experience with autism non-verbal pupils or complex communication needs.

  • Calm patient consistent.

  • Someone who actually enjoys specialist work and wants to get better at it.

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia/SpLD or SEMH specialism).Proficiency in alternative/augmentative communication methodsMakaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de-escalation and safe-handling with assistive ed-tech tools and adaptive software
