Job Summary

TITLE:: Enterprise Fund Accountant

POSTION TYPE: Specialist

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required:

  1. Bachelors degree in accounting or equivalent business degree.
  2. Three or more years of experience with general ledger and financial reporting.

Desired Education and Experience:

  1. Experience with Business Plus or similar ERP system
  2. CPA Certificate or masters degree in accounting business or public administration
  3. School Business Official license by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or willingness to obtain

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of and extensive practice in Microsoft software including Word Excel Access and Outlook.
  2. The ability to multi-task during various business cycles.
  3. Experience with Business Plus or similar ERP system.
  4. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The primary function of this position is to analyze accounting transactions and balances to ensure that transactions are properly recorded and comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Education the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other regulatory agencies and in support of the Districts mission. This position will also be responsible for identifying and communicating programmatic and systematic inefficiencies and assists in improving those areas in a timely and effective manner. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Enterprise Fund management and Business and Finance department.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepare Enterprise Fund financial statements and activity reports on a timely basis.
  2. Prepare and submit monthly claim report for Food and Nutritions Federal and State reporting
  3. Develop forecasting modeling plans for Food and Nutritions Federal and State reporting
  4. Prepare and monitor annual budgets and monthly spending related to the Enterprise Funds (Food and Nutrition Metro Kids Home Construction Automotive and Farm to Market Ag Store). Investigate areas of concern.
  5. Monitor and adjust inventory related to Food and Nutrition Fund including commodities.
  6. Review and reconcile all balance sheet accounts specific to the positions areas of responsibilities at least quarterly but more frequently if deemed necessary.
  1. Participate in onsite reviews of meal counts and accurate collection of claim data as required by the USDA (meal counting proportions cleanliness of kitchen) at multiple schools on a monthly basis.
  2. Prepare monthly billing for catering clients.
  3. Establish account number for programs to be in compliance with Certified Annual Report (CAR) requirement.
  4. Collects and submits accurate data for responsible areas for Key Performance Indicators as a part of the Council of the Great City Schools as scheduled.
  5. Prepare monthly adjusting journal entries for various programs supported by this position.
  6. Prepare ad hoc reports and communicate those results to management.
  7. Ensure compliance with state and federal reporting for responsible areas including the Certified Annual Report (CAR) and Annual Comprehensive Financial Review (ACFR).
  8. Receive research prepare and communicate information requests to appropriate business office and/or district staff.
  9. Actively participate in team meetings and projects and provide relevant and value-added discussion and feedback.
  10. Participate in professional development opportunities for continued learning of school business accounting issues including research and solutions for best practices.
  11. Respond in a timely manner to inquiries from other districts
  12. Implement and lead with continuous improvement practices for the department and district.
  13. Complete special projects as assigned.
  14. Review and approve adjusting journal entries prepared by other staff accountants and district personnel.
  15. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.

DAYS:8 HOURS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Constant sitting occasional standing walking bending/stooping reaching/pushing/pulling climbing/stairs driving lifting 25 lbs 10 feet. Frequent telephone computer.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Constant inside occasional outside extremes of Temperature/humidity.
