Woodston Personnel are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant in Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit to join our clients hospital in Saudi Arabia. The Consultant in Paediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care will provide expert clinical leadership and specialist care for infants children and adolescents with congenital or acquired heart disease requiring intensive care support. The role involves managing pre- and post-operative cardiac surgical patients supporting those with advanced heart failure mechanical circulatory support and complex multi-organ dysfunction. The consultant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe high-quality and evidence-based care for critically ill paediatric cardiac patients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical assessment stabilization and management of critically ill paediatric patients with cardiac and cardiovascular disease.

  • Lead the care of patients before and after cardiac surgery catheter-based interventions or cardiac transplantation.

  • Manage advanced life-support interventions including mechanical ventilation vasoactive infusions ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and ventricular assist devices.

  • Collaborate closely with paediatric cardiologists cardiothoracic surgeons anaesthetists perfusionists and other specialists to deliver integrated patient care.

  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary ward rounds ensuring coordinated management plans and timely decision-making.

  • Provide emergency cover and on-call duties as part of the consultant rota for the Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

  • Ensure comprehensive communication with families providing updates and emotional support during critical illness.

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols and ensure a culture of patient safety and quality improvement.

  • Provide visible and effective leadership within the PCICU fostering teamwork accountability and excellence in care delivery.

  • Contribute to the strategic planning and development of paediatric cardiovascular intensive care services.

  • Support the implementation and evaluation of clinical pathways guidelines and policies in alignment with national and international best practices.

  • Participate in resource planning including staffing equipment acquisition and service expansion initiatives.

  • Take an active role in clinical governance quality assurance and risk management activities.

  • Teach mentor and supervise junior doctors nursing staff fellows and allied health professionals working in paediatric critical care.

  • Lead and participate in teaching programs simulation training and multidisciplinary education sessions.

  • Support the development of advanced competencies in paediatric cardiac intensive care nursing and allied specialties.

  • Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge in paediatric critical and cardiovascular care.

  • Contribute to or lead research initiatives in paediatric intensive care cardiac surgery outcomes or cardiovascular physiology.

  • Participate in clinical audits benchmarking and data collection to monitor and improve patient outcomes.

  • Support publication and dissemination of research findings through conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

  • Integrate evidence-based medicine into clinical practice and encourage research engagement among trainees and staff.

  • Participate in departmental meetings mortality and morbidity reviews and clinical governance committees.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies regulatory requirements and ethical standards of practice.

  • Assist in workforce planning scheduling and performance appraisal within the PCICU team.

  • Support the integration of digital health tools and data-driven monitoring systems to improve care quality and safety.

Job requirements

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

US Board/ FRCS - Irish UK Canadian New Zealand or Australian/ Diploma dEtudes Specialises (DES)/ CIS French Board/ Fachart & Sub- Board/ Fellowship / Board / Fellowship / Sweden / Belgium / Finland / Spain

Must have at least 3-5years of post-consultant or senior specialist experience

Eligible for consultant licensure with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
