DescriptionAbout the Work Unit
Our laboratory seeks a molecular understanding of conflicts between the DNA replication and transcription machineries are resolved by cells across organisms and how these conflicts impact mutagenesis and evolution. A second branch in our group is focused on the development of anti-evolution compounds that inhibit the development of drug resistance during the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. We employ molecular biology genetics and biochemical tools to address these questions. The working environment of our laboratory is very collaborative and collegial.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
- With moderate direction contributes to lab research projects
- Researches and collects data using appropriate lab experiments procedures and techniques.
- Primary tasks involve cloning mutagenesis large-scale bacterial overexpression of proteins and purification using FPLC.
- Synthesizes analyzes and interprets data with assistance of other members of the laboratory.
- Reports on status of research activities in oral and written formats.
- Assists in general lab maintenance
- Assists in sets up operation and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Monitors inventory of supplies and assists with ordering.
- Performs routine duties to ensure the laboratory is prepared for experiments and maintained
- Perform administrative duties
- Train new lab members such as undergraduate students research interns etc
- Act as lab liaison
